The Great Indian Middle Class shopper travels abroad, family in tow, buys the top brands more than any other nationality in Asia. Indians also ranked highest in shopping spends per capita in Singapore, compared to other Asian visitors such as Indonesians, Chinese, Thai, Japanese and Filipinos. An average Indian spends Rs. 28000 per trip in Singapore (excluding airfare). 120,000 Indians visited Singapore in June-July 2006. 220,000 Indians visited Malaysia in 2005 which is another shopping centre. Indians are the third highest spenders after Germans and Japanese, and spend about US$1800 for a 6-day package. They shop for electronic items (DVD players, music systems, plasma screens, digital cameras, play stations), garments, cosmetics, lingerie, branded jewelry, and perfumes. Shopping apart, the Indian travelers have also upgraded to more advanced forms of holidays including adventure sports like deep sea fishing, scuba diving and leisure sports (Times of India, cited in Global Urban Vision).
