Here’s another one of our ongoing Google Motion Capture charts. This one focuses on the change in regional populations for the period 1900-2050 (with projections from the UN database), in the context of each regional population’s share of the global total. After you play it through a time or two, you might try stopping and manually sliding the bar left and right. Note how Eastern Europe drops like a rock–while South Central Asia easily overtakes Eastern Asia. We often think of China as being the biggest population, but forgot that the more culturally similar South Central Asia region (which includes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh) are almost double in population. Dealing with these tremendous population issues is one of the biggest challenges for world missions. All of our plans must scale to deal with these realities.
When viewing this chart, be sure that the left hand column is by % Global, the bottom by population, and that the circles are sized by population. I’ve noticed sometimes the Chart resets to a “default” where the circles are not sized correctly.
