Roman Catholic missionary orders parallel Protestant and global trends
The Jesuits had 19,564 members in 2006, 19,850 in 2005. In 2006 they confirmed a 16-year-long downward trend in the order’s vocation, which is losing 200 to 300 people per year. Median age is 57. In 2006, LAM 2,957; NAM 3,034; Europe 6,447; Asia 5,698; Africa 5,698. Growth was seen in Asi aand Africa, and decline in Latin America, North America and Europe.
