Google Motion Chart: Global Population by Religion, 1800-2025

Some time back I was very interested in the development of Motion Chart software by Gapminder.org. The software was acquired by Google and for a very long time it was impossible for anyone to use the software with their own data sets. Now this has changed, and Google Motion Charts are Spreadsheet Objects. I have built my first spreadsheet using this technology, which is available: Global Population by Religion, 1800-2025. The data comes from the Status of Global Christianity (Barrett & Johnson, www.globalchristianity.org…).

I will probably be doing several more sheets in the days to come, so look for them here. When you click to the chart, it unfortunately does not preserve my settings, but I’ve put recommended settings in the lower left hand corner under the Chart Object.

UPDATE, 6/2/2006:I have played around with the Google tools a bit more, and now have an improved presentation available here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pNdFoF0MY0lli2rVzXpWAEQ.

  1. This is a great start … will be more enlightening when the different circles are identified by religion.

  2. I have played with it some more in order to fix it so that it would do this.
