[edit] Economy
- Because of its unusually rich mix of fertile farmland and natural resources (25% of the world’s supply of bauxite plus diamonds, gold, and iron ore), Guinea carries enormous economic growth potential. Unfortunately, poor governance, weak economic policies, and inadequate infrastructure continue to be major obstacles to attracting the much-needed foreign investment. Political trends are becoming progressively worrisome as rampant corruption increases. In 2006, Guinea was ranked by Transparency International as the most corrupt country in Africa. The poverty in Guinea is so crushing that the majority of its citizens have little or no reliable access to food, water, health care, education, or government services.
[edit] Government
- Starting in January 2008, there have been tensions and disturbances in the country. Political unrest, no mayor violence as yet. The major problems are corruption, injustice and severe poverty. Please pray for various areas of leadership in society, that they exercise wisdom and prudence as they try to solve long-standing problems. The government leaders need wisdom and a desire for internal peace.
[edit] Religion
- Islam came to Guinea in the eleventh century and is embraced by a large majority of its ten million people. The nation has a history of slow response to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, especially among the Muslim population, and is one of the least evangelized countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. However, in a step forward, Christian leaders won the respect of the nation in March of 2007, when they were instrumental in resolving a labour dispute that left one hundred people dead after protests, violence, and looting.
- Islam 85.4%, Traditional 9.7%, Christianity 4.7%

[edit] Churches
- The Christian population is still a small minority. May the Holy Spirit transform individuals, families and tribes, making them models for a truly African Christian lifestyle.
[edit] Church and State Relations
[edit] Mission and church planting
- The ministry of church planting is still among most peoples a pioneer challenge. There is a growing expectancy among believers for planting of new churches among the Unreached People Groups in the country.
- Pray that the Bible, the Jesus Film, and other Christian materials will be translated into the languages of Guinea so that all may have access to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the full Word of God. Pray for nation-wide literacy so that, once translated, these resources will be widely read.
- The New Testament in the Guinea dialect of Fula has just been published. Pray that God will use His word in the lives of Fula believers. Continue to remember the small Fula Church in Pegueti and pray for its leader.
[edit] Challenges for Christians
- The Christian workers need security in an unstable situation (April 2008). May God use them as they testify for God through their work and life. Pray for the local Christians that they will support their country through prayer.
[edit] Broadcasting
- There are a number of Christian broadcasts. May the number of Christian broadcasts multiply in a number of languages and that these messages of faith will have an impact that multiplies many times over through the country of Guinea in an astounding ripple effect. May the audio-visual media reach the eyes and ears of those who cannot read. Pray that these messages of faith will have an impact that multiplies many times over through the country of Guinea in an astounding ripple effect.
